baby legs!!

Skinny little baby legs....love them!

Here are Brenna's cute little booties from Aunt Di...a perfect fit!

2 weeks

This past weekend, my sister and her boyfriend came to visit...Cait was a little nervous about holding Brenna for the first time. She did great, luckily Brenna is a good baby and didn't give Aunt Cait a hard time :)

I have been trying to use my new camera and get familiar with the settings and how to take some cute pictures :) I find it much easier to practice on a sleeping baby!

Again with the sleeping baby :) Here's Brenna in a cute outfit Aunt Caite gave her. I love the little duckies! We are constantly amazed at how small Brenna is...this picture with Nick holding her just shows how tiny she is! Such a proud new daddy! This is how we spend about half our time....sleeping! We try to keep her awake as much as we can but she's really not interested in much other than eating or sleeping. Although we can already tell she's becoming more alert during the day. It's amazing how much they change in just a week :)

We have another Dr's appt on Monday and we're anxious to see how much she weighs!

Week 1

We've had a lot of firsts this week...and are trying to learn how Miss Brenna wants things done. Over all, she's eating well, napping well and pooping well. Some nights are better than others but once we figure out what's bothering her she soothes very easily. Nick is a natural born swaddler :) He has been a great daddy, getting up at all hours and on very little sleep.

She looks like such an angel!!

This is a picture from her first bath... I love that look!

Very happy grandparents!!

Here she is!!

On the morning of the due date, I woke up around 3am (like I do most mornings lately) with lots of contractions. We had just been to the Drs the day before and he thought they were just braxton-hicks and I was still not dilated. So, I just assumed these were a continuation of the day before. They were slightly stronger but otherwise I didn't feel any different.

When Nick got up at 0530, I was questioning if I'd be able to the next evening for the scheduled induction. By 0600 we decided to go to the hospital just to be safe and see if I could get a little relief from the pain... So, we packed up, Nick called his work and we headed over to the hospital.

By 0700, they saw I was contracting about every 3 min and I was dilated to 5-6 cm! While I was on the monitor, they say saw the baby's heart rate drop a little. They told us we were gonna be admitted...things were moving quickly!

We got to the delivery room and I got an IV and some IV fluid so I could get an epidural. What an amazing thing!! I was finally able to catch my breath in between contractions and conserve some energy for the big show :)

The Dr came and broke my water and started me on a little pitocin to move stuff along. The baby's heart rate frequently dropped so they wanted to get her out sooner than later. Next thing I know, I was dilated to 8 and the Dr wanted me to push. He asked if I wanted a C-section and I said No, so we started pushing. Brenna made her debut after about 6-7 more contractions and a little help from a vacuum :)

She came out screaming! There was a pediatric team at bedside to check her since her heart rate had been low during labor. Here she is a few hours after birth and after being cleaned up.
We were so lucky our parents were able to come down from Michigan and arrived on Thursday afternoon to see their first grandchild! We had some very happy grandparents :)

Since Brenna and I were doing so well and she was eating and pooping well, we were able to go home after 24 hours. We were so anxious to get home to our own bed and not be woken up every few hours by the hospital staff, so left around 7pm.

Brenna was looking beatiful and feisty in her going home outfit from Aunt Caite :) She was so cute!

We are at the end! I've been having regular contractions all day and since we already had a Drs appointment scheduled, we just figured we'd see what he had to say. Well, we could see the contractions on the monitor and they were coming pretty regularly but the Dr didn't feel they were strong enough to be 'real.' So, since my due date was the next day, he asked if we wanted to schedule an induction for later in the week. We eagerly agreed! So, we are planning to check into the hospital Thursday at 9pm. YAY!! BR is the size of a small pumpkin! She's about 20 inches long and weighs about 7lbs. She's still moving around a lot and I am completely uncomfortable. We are just waiting on her to decide it's time to come out!

Nursery

Here is BR's crib all ready to go!! This is our little changing station, at least for now.

All of BR's new friends waiting to meet her!

We had another Drs appointment this week and still no dilation or any sort of progress. I feel pretty good still, but having a lot of trouble sleeping past 3 or 4 in the morning. As long as I haven't had to work in the morning, I've just gotten up, drank a glass of hot chocolate and read a book for a couple hours until I get sleepy. Luckily my last few shifts don't start until 11am so I can take a bit of a nap around 6. Weird to think of taking a nap at 6am but I guess whatever works!

BR is the size of a baby watermelon this week....weighing in at close to 7lbs and about 20 inches long!! She's still moving around a lot and getting lower and lower in my pelvis. I guess that's some progress...
